Winter Poem
'Snowball'

I made myself a snowball
As perfect as could be.
I thought I'd keep it as a pet
And let it sleep with me.
I made it some pajamas
And a pillow for its head.
Then last night it ran away,
But first it wet the bed.

What is your most memorable short story (modern story? Fairy Tale?) Explain why you like it of why it made an impression on you.

The most memorable short story for me is Mother Goose. Mother Goose is not my favorite fairy tale, it does not come close to Cinderella, but when i was a child my Auntie Anne rewrote Mother Goose and gave it to me as a present. As a christmas present, my Aunt surprised all thirteen of her nieces and nephews with a new fairy tale, Mother Goose. This book was not a just an ordinary book, it was one of a kind; because each of us, all thirteen of us, were characters in this fairy tale. I distinctly remember being the Cow that jumped over the moon and my brother was cat that played the fiddle (: Mother Goose was the most impressional fairy tale!

Do you think young people today value their education as much as Sara Smolinsky does? Why or why not?
I think the majority of students to not value their education as much as Sara. In this day and age, most children are given the opportunity to pursue an education and are encouraged to further their education. Because going to school is not a choice but an obligation, student do not take their schooling seriously.
In the 1920's, receiving and education was not even considered for most women. Priorities for women during that time period were much different, they were compelled to get married and raise a children and there was no time for an education. However, in todays society, finishing high school and going to college is mandatory for both girls and boys. Overall, the value of education has diminished due to the lack of motivation.

"There's nothing hard about writing. All you have to do is sit down and open up a vein."
- Walter "Red" Smith

In my opinion, this quote embodies the truth about writing, it is just plain difficult. Writing has never been my forte or an activity I eagerly pursue when i have an opportunity for leisure, but something I do only when forced; much like pulling teeth.  Writing is painful and writers deserve praise for their patience and determination, two qualities I do not posses when it comes to writing.

My response to the Bread Givers:
So far, I am enjoying the Bread Givers. Once I start reading, it is extremely easy to finish the assigned chapters for the week. The only character I am completely frustrated with is the Father. With every chapter, the father is becoming increasingly more stubborn, self centered and insane. The fact that he blames his daughters for the fraudulent men he chose for them to marry, clearly shows how selfish he is, and his inability to take responsibility for his own actions.
As the "matchmaker," the father chose a "diamond dealer" for Mashah. Much to their dismay, the diamond dealer was merely a diamond salesmen who ended up losing his job because he was caught showering Mashah with his jewels. A month after Mashah's wedding, she returned home hungry and her father only responded with much criticism for "her" bad judgement in choosing a husband. Save as Draft
